This is a great album with moving protest songs.
See the film first to fully dig it.
CSNY are not observers of life, they've got balls.

Kate Rusby is a treat and possibly the most unsung performer in the UK. I own hundreds of CDs and very few of them continue to move me like "The Girl Who Couldn't Fly". From the teasing, light-hearted rhyme of `Mary Blaize' to the haunting simplicity of `Fare Thee Well', this album is a treat for the ears and a journey for the emotions. 'No Names' is the ultimate highlight for me, specifically because of Roddy Woomble's fantastic contribution. The vast space between Kate and Roddy's tones serves only to add to the bittersweet parting message that the song contains. This is a wonderful album that deserves much wider critical aclaim than it has received so far.

i have been looking for a darts cd for years.
there have been similar import copies offered on ebay for £60 plus.
this brings back pleasing memories of the late 70's.
i was much happier then and the darts were fantastic.
they have been criminally ignored their songs never appear on the multiple compilation albums from the era.
do yourself a favour and buy this cd!

By no means all the greatest early songs, this compilation does include her hits and well-known album tracks from the 1960s and early 1970s. It focuses on the later Vanguard years when she moved into pop and rock. Four Dylan tracks are included plus her greatest commercial success, The Band's The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, a lilting melodious song about the civil war, her big hit from 1971.
Farewell Angelina from the album of the same name is another gem, and then there's the civil rights anthem We Shall Overcome. Other highlights include The Dangling Conversation (penned by Paul Simon), the bitter Love Is Just A Four Letter Word and the stirring There But For Fortune. Help Me Make It Through The Night and Let It Be must be two of the most covered ... Read More:

This is probably Al's most commecial release in many years. Hardcore fans have complained in some of the other reviews here that this somehow makes for an inferior product. It most certainly does not!. Many of the songs - particularly 'Eisenhower' and 'Hanno' will stick in your head and you will find yourself humming them as you go about your business!
When you listen to what masquarades as music (even on Radio 2 ) it always makes me wonder why Al was not more commercially successful. If his record company made a serious effort to 'plug' this album I truly believe that 'Eisenhower' could be a successful single.

When Mogwai released 'Young Team' back in 1997, they were a breath of fresh air. They combined the rawness of Pavement circa 'Slanted & Enchanted' with the atmosphere so fondly remembered on Slint's milestone album 'Spiderland'.
11 years on from that landmark release and Mogwai have gone through many up's and downs. 'Come On Die Young' blew us all away with its blinding dynamics and sinister air, but conversley, 'Rock Action' left me with an empty feeling and made me wonder wheather this once great band had gone as far as it could. Since 'Rock Action', Mogwai have released a steady stream of good if not remarkable albums (although I beleive 'Happy Songs For Happy People' to be somewhat of a lost classic).
'The Hawk Is Howling' keeps this trend up, its neither ... Read More:

I am a very big fan of Enya and have been for many years.I have to say though that I consider 'Amaratine' to be one of her weaker efforts.Although we know just what we will get from her music, this album at times feels almost too predictable and almost sluggish.
Of course there are some moments of excellence, there always are from her.'Amarantine' and 'It's In The Rain' are Enya at her very best but if I am being honest I do in general find this album to be a bit of a let down. She is a top drawer talent to be sure but Enya has done much better than this. For any other artist this would be a good effort but for what I have come to expect from Enya it is average.Still,it does have it's moments.

I bought this album when it came out, on vinyl. Neil Young had been only partly known to me - i tended to think "acoustic" and "folky", which were not the kind of words i was into at that age. John Peel said that "nothing before had prepared him for the magnificence of Zuma" or words to that effect. As a keen JP listener and admirer, i thought I'd give it a go. Fabulous! It was as rock-y and discordant in places as you could wish. The guitaring was a revelation. Great songs, love-it-or-hate-it voice/singing - which i did love. The acoustic numbers and gentler tracks were great songs too, and perfect to sing when you were having a drink with your mates. "I've been looking for a lover, but I haven't met her yet - she'll be nothing like i picture her to be." My pals all bought it too. And i haven't ... Read More:

Emily Smith is a singer~songwriter who works in the folk idiom, and is fairly traditional in her approach. My first reaction to her, some years ago, was that she has the voice of an angel. My opinion has not changed.
"too long away", her third and newest album, picks up where "A Different Life" left off. A mix of traditional songs and her own make up the album. As usual, Emily surrounds herself with some of the finest folk musicians, and careful listening will reveal subtleties in the music that reward multiple listens. Emily's voice, as always, is pure joy to listen to; she has a clarity that is mind-blowing, a scary ability to convey emotion and feeling, and vocal nuances that most professional singers would kill for. There is also a spiritual quality that flows through all of her work ... Read More:
