I think some of the less favourable reviews have missed the point somewhat. I can't believe anyone bought this album having heard the singles and actually expected something serious, but there you go. Takes all sorts I spose.

Like The Mighty Boosh, Calvin Harris somehow manages to pull off the difficult trick of being very silly and very cool at the same time. That's what you're getting here, nothing more and nothing less. Dance snobs had best look elsewhere.

I love this album.The highlights are Don Henley's take on 'everybody knows' which is biting and cold, Martin Gore's 'coming back to you', rich but still imbued with the pain of emptiness (miles better than Tricia Yarwood's version)and Tori Amos's 'famous blue raincoat', she is perfect for the song. The rest is still good but I am not entirely convinced by Billy Joel, I think he lacks the necessary depth and Peter Gabriel's effort is a bit sluggish.
Have to disagree with the others, I think Bono's take on Hallelujah is interesting and I like it. However, the ultimate cover has to be John Cale's which is avaiable on the album 'I'm your fan - the songs of Leonard Cohen by....' If you like Leonard Cohen you should definitely invest in this one ... Read More:

Like another reviewer, i too heard this guy rubbishing the Beatles on Radio 4. I threw his cd in the dustbin after I heard this from a meduim guitar player, singer, songwriter from Scotland. No time for narcissistic folk singers, who take themselves far too seriously, who feel that they are self made, creative people who give little or no credit to those who may have inspired them.

this is such a fantastic cd. i just expected another one of these cheesy shanty-choirs but this is gritty, authentic stuff. the singers put their heart and soul in the performance and you get a real feeling for the work. it is accompanied by a very informative, enlightening booklet with lots of info.

This could be Pentangle's best album - 'Basket of Light' is the only other contender, but this one has much more material on it.

The first disc was recorded live in 1968 and the second is from the studio. The live show is great, with a mix of folk standards, originals and instrumentals showing great dexterity and skill from all involved. Bert Jansch and John Renbourn's version of Mingus' 'Goodbye Pork Pie Hat' is a standout instrumental tune - very relaxing and melodic. The studio set is a strong album in its own right, with highlights (for me) being the guitar duel of 'In Time', the morality tale 'Sovay' and the grooving 'I've Got A Feeling', which borrows the chord sequence from Miles Davis' 'All Blues'.

Last Night

Last night is a fantastic album in the typical style of Moby.
These tracks are reproducing 70's and 80' as Moby wrote in the introduction.
Classic disco style, the same as Moby created in his early career.

I prefer it for everybody who love Moby or who don't know Moby but love old disco hits.
