In fact side 1 (as we used to say) is workmanlike, enjoyable enough, but nothing to justify the hullabaloo. This is the most thrilling, exciting sound I have heard in ages. What amazing talent and energy! I cannot stop playing it night or day, it is so uplifting.
Even when I am not playing it, the rhythms and melodies keep coming into my head and I find myself nodding,tapping my feet or drumming with my fingers in tempo. The sound quality in general is absolutely superb, however, can anyone explain the small blip of interference between track 2 and 3 ? It only lasts a few seconds but I think this couple deserve perfection in the recording of their performance. I was also a little disappointed in the quality of the DVD production.
In spite of these criticisms I heartily recommend this album and still give it five stars!

seriously fantastic.

this is an obscure set of rare groove tracks.

seriously spaced out funk, my bro found it, that's where i heard it from and just bought this cd for the uncompressed quality.

i believe all the others in the set have ethiopian vocals all over them.

if you like rare groove/funk trust me, buy this and you'll be more than happy ;)

Je baguenaudais dans mes mels lorsqu'amazon m'a proposé des titres que j'aimerais sans doute recevoir et j'ai souri en y trouvant "songs from a room" de mon "maître" Léonard Cohen.
Cet album accompagne ma vie depuis qu'il est sorti et nourrit mes fantasmes les plus divers sur l'amour, la mort, la liberté et le rêve d'un séjour en grèce sur Hydra bien sur.
Alors la découverte de 2 bonus tracks a illuminé mon dimanche d'été et j'ai lu avec grand intérêt et attention les contributions des autres fans de léonard. The Very Best of Gipsy Kings

This CD release is a little cheeky, as the Very Best of Gypsy Kings was released about seven years ago, which had all of these tracks on and a number of more, separated on to two discs: one with the dancey stuff and the other with their romantic tracks, (it's probably cheaper too!).

Anyhow, apart from this minor detail, regardless of what CD you choose, it will provide you with hours of fun and/or relaxation. So make yourself some sangria and put on Bamboleo, or run a bath and play Mi Manera. Whichever way you choose, this CD is a top buy.

Already being a big fan,maybe I'm biased but this has been on repeat ever since I downloaded it from Kates web site. Beautifully understated, soaring vocal, every bit as lovely as when we heard it at Hull City Hall earlier this year. Must be chart bound!!!

With 17 of the 21 previous reviewers giving this album the 5 star treatment along with many good, no excellent reasons for owning it, I feel my policy of giving an in depth review of my 5 star albums will be surplus to requirements here. Drat there are so many good things to say.

I can't even focus on a favourite track, everything on this album slots nicely into place, giving a roller coaster ride all the way through, without of course having to turn the disc over at halftime now its on cd. The bonus tracks simply prolong the enjoyment.

I am currently preparing my top ten list of favourite albums, on which this is sitting comfortably at number two, behind Wishbone Ash's Argus, I can't see it slipping below that.

Seven for Old England

I am a great admirer of Maddy prior, not least because to me she represents the true voice of English Folk Music and is not afraid to champion the 'English' song in this day and age of so called correctness. English Folk Music is amongst the best music in the world and this CD is no exception. There are some great melodies here both sung and played so well that it is a joy to listen to. I cannot imagine a world without Maddy's music - with or without Steeleye Span and the Carnival band that she sings with. To me the real gem of this collection is 'Magpie', her own composition which was shelved for over forty years until now and never fails to send a shiver down my spine and a tear to my eye whenever I play it. Liege And Lief

"Liege and Lief" is a genuine landmark recording, one of those albums that changed things.

You could hear the way the Fairports were going with "A sailor's life" on "Unhalfbricking" but the fusion of West Coast rock and English folk on "L&L" was genuinely revolutionary.

This album is one of those that everyone should own - because it is unique, it defined and kickstarted the whole folk-rock scene.

Sandy Denny was a wonderful singer, sadly missed, and her solo albums are well worth listening too but "L&L" is her memorial.

Dave Swarbrick's violin playing here is great, as is all the musicianship - particularly Richard Thompson, one of the UK's greatest guitar players.
