The audio quality & all the performances are all excellent (no dusty mono recordings here!!)and what a fantastic tracklist. Tchaikovsky, Holst, Wagner, Prokofiev, Mussorgsky, Stravinsky and even Hans Zimmer with the battle music from Gladiator.
So much superb Wagner here as an introduction, and such masterpieces as The Rite Of Spring, Mars The Bringer Of War & excerpts from Pictures At An Exhibition - Just way too many to list, and this is probably my favourite compilation of all!
I'd recommend this and Heavy Classix from Amazon UK as a superb companion piece.

This CD deserves more than 5 stars. It is not only my favourite soundtrack, but also my favourite CD of all time. It manages to take you into the depths of despair with sorrowful melodies played on string instruments and then in the next breath fills you with such optimism that you feel you could achieve any goal you desire. You can feel the heat of the fire and the pain of the firefighters in the film, but not only is it a brilliant backing to the film, it is a superb piece of orchestral writing. Track 8 - Fahrenheit 451 is my particular favourite. The cello solo at the start is gorgeous but the military style drums (in particular the huge cymbol crash at the climax) gives you goosebumps. This CD is well worth every penny and will live in your stereo!
