This is a lovely double CD set. Mendelssohn solo piano music is beautiful and very escapist. Although I am a classical buff myself, I am buying a second copy to give to my fashionable electric guitar playing mate who wants to get into classical but doesn't know what he'd like. I reckon this stuff is hard to dislike and very accessible to classical newbes. I also have no complaints about Barenboim's performance/interpretation of these works.

If you have always wanted to seriously head-bang to some seriously respectable music so that your head-banging can look somewhat intelligent, highly cultured or even mature, then this is the album for you. If you like to move whilst listening to classical music (personally, I like to often pretend I am the conductor, which often gets my into the feel of any classical composor such as Prokofiev) then again, this album is for you.
You cannot listen to this and sit still. However, if you believe that this is beethoven on authentic synthesisers i.e. synthesisers that try to sound like a real orchestra, then your wrong.
