I'd agree with T D Clifton's review elsewhere on this page entirely, but will add that despite quite a number of Parsons anthologies, there is still some seminal stuff unreleased:

Perhaps future compilers will acquire the three or four songs a prototype lineupm of the Burritos recorded while Parsons and Hillman were still in The Byrds. These sessions also featured Clarence White (who had played sessions with the Byrds and joined after Gram left) and Gene Parsons (no relation to Gram), who also joined The Byrds just before Chris Hillman left to join Gram in the 'Gilded Palace of Sin' Burritos. I prefer the Ten Year Night album. This album is more mellow, more introspective (you would not have thought it possible) and more heavily inclined towards more subtle melodies - more easy listening than folk. The guitar is less folksy here and the use of violins or the dobro is nearly non existent.

This seems a more mature album lyrically, but I love Kaplansky for the ensemble - the music and the lyrics and I find that the mucical accompaniement to be skilled but less impressive in terms of suprises.

However, despite all this I still think she is peerless as an artist. Jonatha Brooke has become more commercial and Sarah McClaghlan is so much more irritatingly angsty. Kaplansky is subtle and a wonder to listen to.

At first glance, this box set might look like overkill.The Louvins are not exactly recent chart toppers, and not one track of theirs has been in a jeans advertisement.
It takes Bear Family to pay respect to probably the finest duet Country music has ever enjoyed.Ira and Charlie Louvin recorded for Capitol from the mid 50's to 1964.The act split and Ira was killed the following year in a car crash.He made one solo album. Charlie continued recording off and on until the present day. But it is these recordings that are the core of the brothers heritage.They are the gold standard.They stand at the junction of country music coming down from the mountain and meeting countrypolitan in Nashville.
