As much as I love the original Broadway recording, this revival from 2006 has surpassed it, in my opinion. Raul Esparza is adorable as Robert, and sings Sondheim's lyrics with passion and believability. The new orchestrations are inventive and catchy.

This recording is not a great recording but is a good one, the cast is strong and I hate to contradict another review but Sheila Gish is a league above the loony that is Strickland. I saw the stage performance of this company twice and was blown away at the Donmar, less so when it transferred, it just lost the intimacy. This recording does not do justice to the amazing vocals of Adrian Lester, who was incredibly charasmatic on stage. The original recording is now a little dated, but like this one is truthful to the score. Sophie Thompson's "Not Getting Married Today" was over-acted but brilliant, LAdies who Lunch can take as much abuse as any performer can throw at it, it is a show-stopping number. Thank the lord above for Wyclef Jean feat.Pras Michel & Free!! Without them this would have been an abysmal effort from one of the most overrated moustachioed bunch of baffoons the rock/pop industry has ever produced whoose only appeal is to a gaggle of perm obsessed, musically deprived knitters.

If I had to created a top 10 of the worst songs ever recorded i'd have to think very hard about whether Barcelona was number 1 or 2, its absolutely terrible!!!

I think it is admirable of Wyclef Jean to make this attempt to make Mr Mercury's music . . . . .acceptable.

Avoid it, buy anything else, ever heard Master P and the No Limit Soldiers? Much better!
