by: Anjani

Release Date
This is a great album, not a duff track in sight. Cohen has always had great backing singers, Jennifer Warnes, Sharon Robinson & Anjani to name but three. Warnes has already recorded an album of Cohen material, Robinson should have gor equal credit fot '10 New Songs' and now this... Anjani is excellent throughout, the songs perfectly balanced between words, miusic and voice. Anyway, enough about the album, I bought it when it first came out in 2006 and only bought these re-issue for the DVD and, trust me, it is worth it. The two music videos are great and there is even a guest appearance from the great man. The 'making of..' is also very interesting. Worth buying? You bet.

Release Date April 23, 2007
Two things came to mind when listening to this rather fine album; firstly, for all the, deserved, plaudits afforded to the likes of Diana Krall, Norah Jones and Madeline Peyroux, Anjani Thomas is the real "real deal" in terms of a jazz sound. Secondly, its debatable whether or not this album would have received quite so much hype and press if it wasn't for the Leonard Cohen connection.

Still it's not for me to dissect the why's and how's of the music press and at heart it is definately a good album. In lesser hands the formula of Anjani and her piano might deliver a boring album, but with typically interesting Cohen lyrics to work with and neat little changes of pace throughout (the sax on the title track, the guitar on Half The ... Search: Blue Alert
by: Madeleine Peyroux

Release Date October 30, 2006
The first few tracks are the heart and soul of this album. "I'm All Right" the first, is probably the best. "Summer Wind" is a sweet ballad - rock steady beat with gentle softly swooping vocals - very nice. "Blue Alert" - this is a good number that bops along nicely but Peyroux's vocals lack the edge and attack that would have made it something special. Still - it grows on you.

"Everybodys Talkin" is just an incredibly dull rendition of a clasic song. Truly dreadful.

There isn't much to say about the rest of the album only two other tracks are worthy of note: "Little Bit" co-written by Peyroux is a pretty good number - I hope to hear more of her own material on future albums.

This is an incredible disc...It is truly enthralling from start to finish. Arjen Lucassen is an astonishingly talented artist, lyrically as well as musically. On this CD he contructs a prog metal tour de force...featuring members of Symphony X, Helloween, Iron Maiden (Yeah!), and Stratovarious among others. Heavy, melodic, powerful, awesome...These are words I would use to describe this essential cd...Own it NOW!
