This album is perfect if you are just discovering the 80's Punk-Folk phenomenon The Pogues. Of all the interesting music prevalent in the 80's (and no, not ANY of it is DISCO thank-you very much), the Pogues had it together. While just as rowdy as the Sex Pistols, the Pogues combined Celtic folk sound with the punk uh, sensibility, best exemplified in the alluringly-titled "Rum, Sodomy and the Lash." If you have no Pogues, this is a great start--lots of the best cuts. Now that there is a sort of World-Celtic-Folk revival going on, this album will surprise your friends with it's raw yet catchy sound.

An official 'live' Pogues release is long, long overdue so perhaps one shouldn't really complain about the overall quality of this album. But it is all too sadly evident that in 1991 - the time of this concert - The Pogues were in a state of terminal decline: this live performance feels highly disjointed and one suspects that everyone on stage was busy concentrating on doing their own thing - consequently, nothing really gels and it is no surprise that MacGowan upped and left shortly after this concert was recorded... Still, this is the usual rowdy and raucous Poguetry, MacGowan's lyrics and vocals carry the usual bite and it's all driven by an intense energy. So, don't worry, be happy - and pour a glass or ten and sing-a-long with Paddy!!! Well worth the ... Read More:

I love the Pogues but there's a reason most of this stuff was never released. There's a few great tracks on here but I doubt I'll listen to most of it ever again. This is certainly for fans only.

My Dad had a Clancy Brothers (the 4 jersey's)album which I loved as a boy; when I first heard the Pogues it was the Clancy Bros for nutters. It was the sight of Spider Stacy smahing a beer tray off his head on the Tube that first got me interested. Bought RRFM. My mum thought I'd joined the orange lodge the first time I put it on. What can I say, ultimately my favourite album ever. Not one bad song and each one a varying combination of passion and beauty and energy and roots and authenticity and roughness and total mentalness as well as cracking music. The genuine article. Got Shane McGowan's autograph once, it said ACAB,Shane. Thats what RRFM was all about, that attitude in music.

If there is little or no Pogues in your collection, and there most certainly should be, this could be a great place to start, as disc one gathers all their most influential material; the singles, key album tracks and even a B-side (The Repeal Of The Licensing Laws), while the soul of the band is laid bare on the second disc, the previously unreleased reunion concert that took place over two legendary nights at the Brixton Academy on the lead up to Christmas 2001, with Shane MacGowan back with the band for nearly all the lead vocals (so far as I can tell Spider Stacy takes the lead on Tuesday Morning, Terry Woods sings Young Ned of The Hill, Phil Chevron sings his own Thousands Are Sailing and Lila MacMahon guests with Shane on a rousing Fairytale Of New York), ...
