an incredible package with lots of information and some brillaint early electronic music examples and studies.

If you have tons of money and have been into electronic music from the very start their are probably still going to be suprises here for you!

This package is an incredle purchase even simply as a refernce product. Their are people here that i hear and definatly am going to learn more about and study. People like Tod Dockstader of whom i probably would have not come across without this guide for instance

a huge recommendation to anyone with an ear towards the avant garde.

Prokofiev: The Fiery Angel

I must say firstly opera is not my thing, but I do enjoy Prokofiev

I have heard better in terms of recording quality, and the levels seemed a little unbalanced. That said, the emotion comes through, and the performances are all of a good quality.

I bought this on the back of having enjoyed a large bulk of his works, and the choral pieces in other works in particular. The work did not match my hopes, but did perhaps show me another element of Prokofiev that I had not seen.

Opera buffs may well enjoy this, but anyone looking on the back of his other works may want to give a miss if they have not experienced other opera's previously.

As morality plays go, this must be one of the very best. The libretto is by none other than Mme Colette, and the story concerns the fairy-tale adventures of a spoiled but basically good-hearted child and how he learns the worth of what he finds around him. He learns, for instance, not to pin the living beauty of a dragonfly to the wall just as a trophy. He learns not to inflict casual damage on a tree. He learns, even, not to be destructive and wasteful of the simple everyday environment of his home, and he learns the value of learning itself. Ravel: L'Enfant et les sortilèges/Ma Mère l'Oye

This exquisite chamber opera receives a gorgeous rendition from Previn, LSO and cast. It's a wonderful work that ranks at the top of Ravel's oeuvre. The story is simple, the music full of beauty and fun, and I always find the final scene incredibly moving. Excellent performances all round, nicely rounded off with the equally enchanting 'Ma Mere l'Oye'.
