I've purchased quite a few CDs lately. I bought this one almost as an afterthought, mainly because of the price. ButI was amazed when the discs arrived in the mail. I can't remember the last time I've sat and listened to a 3 CD set all the way through. Well, almost all the way through; I had to hit "NEXT" a couple of times during each disc, but not as often as I would have expected to. There is a lot more wheat than chaff here.
The vast majority of the recordings are of exceptional quality. The one of "Summertime Blues", though, is one of the worst i've ever heard, but one poor recording out of a 3 CD set ain't bad. The other recording worth mentioning is "First There Is A Mountain" which appears in mono. Then there's the almost ... Read More:

I would have to say that I enjoyed the vibe this cd gave me. there was a wide variety of sounds and bands which kept me entertained whilst in the car, and at the gym. when I first read the song options I got a bit nervous but after listening I felt that the cd was well arranged that you weren't always skipping to the next track. I'd recommend it to my friends and use it as a gift, since I already have one for myself.

As far as compilation albums go this is good, in fact very good BUT it could have been even better. While both discs are brimming with great chill-out moments from the likes of Lemon Jelly, Sigur Ros, Royksopp, Richard Hawley etc. the flip side of the coin sees Norah Jones (WHY????), Coldplay (NOT AGAIN !!!) and Corinne Bailey Rae (YAWN) damage your senses. Stand out track is Angi by Davy Graham (I'll definately be checking out more of his music) and who in their right mind will want to hear Nizlopi's JCB Song on a Sunday morning after a heavy night on the booze?

If this is the best summer compilation ever then i am the pope. There is only one tune on here that is remotely summery, that being Steal My Sunshine by Len which kinda makes you feel like poppin your shorts and shades on and going for a walk on the beach - most of the others make you wanna shoot yourself - mambo number 5, come on, how lame is that.
This would get five stars if it was called "The Worst Summer... Ever Ever Ever" or "The Cheesiest Pile of Turd We Could Stick On Two CD's And Claim to be The Best Summer....Ever"

This atmospheric score by TOMANDANDY works very well when it accompanies THE HILLS HAVE EYES on screen and really serves to build the emotional dynamics of terror, suspense and sorrow, however as a stand-alone listening experience it loses a little impact but that still isn't detrimental to it's enjoyment as a soundtrack with it's layered electronic samples, powerful bass lines and thumping percussive beats combined with haunting acoustic guitar melodies one is reminded of the early years of composers like John Carpenter (Halloween, Assault on Precinct 13, Escape from New York, Vampires) or Brad Fieldel (Terminator I & II, Fright Night, Just Before Dawn). Stand-out tracks include Forbidden Zone, Beast finds Beauty, Daddy Daddy, Trailer, ... Read More:
