Like it says in the accompanying book most R&B and hip hop coexisted as one and in many ways this is how the cds pan out. Yet there is no real evolution of how we got todays R&B and one gets a sense that more time was spent putting together the early stuff than the most recent stuff (currently the biggest selling genre in the name of Beyonce and Justin Timberlake). Case in point is the absence of MJ's Billie Jean: a mystery! So if you're an R&B you'll be pleased with Mary J blige's appearance but gobsmacked as too why there is no Salt N Pepa nor TLC.
