I bought this because I know next to nothing about classical music and thought that it would serve as an a starting point from which to explore works by composers I liked. After all what's the point in buying a whole album by a composer and then finding out you don't like any of it? It's a good album from that point of view, but it is certainly not soothing. Several of the pieces are too jolly or bouncy. The classical interpretation of 'Summertime' is a travesty and I no longer play any of the cd it's on in case I catch the beginning of it. There are also too many film scores which I find rather syrupy. This cd is dead cheap and I'd recommend it as an introduction to classical music.

I purchased this three disc collection while on holiday in England this past summer. It has provided hours and hours of enjoyment whether as a lights out, chill out or daytime background music. The discs are packaged in a book-like format which includes some beautiful pictures of Great Britan's natural treasures. In addition there are brief explanations of the various selections. The fact that a portion of the proceeds goes to the National Trust is yet a further bonus. If you enjoy collections ala Classic FM, this eclectic mixture is just right for you. Excellent value.
