Crassly dismissed by some as mere Isis copyists, Swedish eight-piece Cult of Luna have been plying their apocalyptic, post-metal wares for some time now; having released their self-titled debut in 2001, they are now on album number five - one more than their Californian-based counterparts - and Eternal Kingdom marks a further evolvement of the band's sound. Granted, it may lack the sheer sonic vastness of that first album and its flawless follow-up, 2003's The Beyond, and it doesn't quite match the crushing emotional intensity of Salvation. Nevertheless, it retains many of the features of all three records (notably, the distinctive if slightly one-dimensional vocals and the slow, build-to-climax song structures) as well as building on the experimentalism ... This is a superb album in every single aspect. The production is raw, the guitars brutal and the drums combining between fast and mid tempo. When I first heard the synths on the "An Eternal Kingdom of Fire", I knew I was in for some amazing Black Metal. The rest of the album follows in a similar style... If you like grim and depressing music. You should buy "Heven In Flames"

This collection has had some negative remarks. I was born in 1959 and have spent most of my life as a musician (including some prog rock stints), music lover, and importantly, a collector of music (10,000 plus recordings, various media), of especially 'adventurous' music (within every context of my stages of life). Suffice it to say, I personally view this collection as 'manna', most enjoyable and a true gift for it's release. Thats all ;-). Was this review helpful to you (just kidding ;-))
btw, I am listening to these recordings as I write, wish you were here.
