Caravanserai and Welcome see the band at the pinnacle of their jazzier phase with the former album being without parallel. The set is worth the price for these two albums alone. Love Devotion and Surrender is Santana and John Mclaughlin in deva dip mode. Impressive guitar playing but a bit aimless. Borboletta sees the start of the real decline in quality but has Promise of a Fisherman on and stands up against anything the band have ever done. Amigos is dross but you don't ever have to play this one! Five stars for Caravanserai and Welcome. Don't expect any liner notes these are bargain basement productions - but its all in the music man |
