This is a good collection of music by Natacha Atlas-she is extremely talented and this album reflects that. The covers are excellent, as Natachas does not merely rehash the same sounds but really makes the song her own, in her own style. As for her own songs, they are beautiful and sensual, combining more traditional beats with modern ones. This album is never dull-the livelier tracks tend to be very eclectic, drawing influences from sounds from all over the world. The slower ones are sensual but still retain power and strength-there is nothing half-hearted on this album.

Though deeply rooted in Arabic culture, Natacha's music is by no means confined to this genre, and as a result she is a very accessible artist. This greatest hits ... Read More:

Boces

Mercury Rev albums vary so much musically that it's impossible to say which is the best (though all are worth owning), but Boces certainly demands to be listened to again and again. Experimental but always listenable, I've yet to hear another album like it. My personal favourite tracks are the bizarre but wonderful Trickle Down, the intense joy of Bronx Cheer and the flute-led beauty of Down Are Feminine Balloons. But there's always something new to be gained from this album. Essential for fans of the band anyone who enjoys innovative, forward-thinkng music.
N.B. The tracklisting above is completely wrong (sort it out, Amazon!) and the song Frittering mentioned in a previous customer review is in fact on their debut album Yerself Is Steam.

I really don't know anything about Egyptian music - about three years ago I went to Egypt with my family and my mum and I bought few music tapes while we were there. The only one we still have that isn't lost is by a singer called Lyla Nazmi (very highly recommended!) but both of us distinctly remembered the amazing Samira Said!!! Since then, my mum bought two more Samira Said albums. The first wasn't particularly impressive but her most recent one - Youm Wara Youm, is absalutely amazing.

As the reviewer above said, this is an album dominated by the single Youm Wara Youm. The duet is one of the of the most amazing pieces of music I have ever heard - at the same time eery but uplifting with a fantastic tune. It makes me think of galloping horses across ... Read More:
