...but their effect was diluted by the likes of The Darkness and The Backstreet Boys. This album is a reasonably enjoyable compilation of what are, for the most part, middle-of-the-road songs, pleasant enough for background music. Personal highlights include "Purple Rain" by Prince and "This Year's Love" by David Gray (which has a legitimate claim as one of "the most moving songs of all time", unlike Michelle McManus' offering which one can only assume was put on as some sort of comic relief). I was also surprised to find that I enjoyed the N Sync track -- very mellow and understated. Overall though, I wouldn't recommend shelling out for this album. I bought this because it contains a difficult to find classic song - Python Lee Jackson (featuring Rod Stewart) - "In a broken Dream".

I got it at a bargain price and there is probably no other easy way to get hold of that track.

All the other stuff is made of rock standards. The sort of thing your old dad might buy for a family party.

...Thin on top. Old hat.

Take three CD's of the sort you get free with the Sunday newspapers, splice on a James Blunt track -- that you're sick to death of hearing -- and add in a little something for the housewife by Buble and pow, you have this "brand new" compilation from Magic.

Do yourself a favour and read the full track listing before you buy this, because you probably already own 90% of it.

Another completely unimaginative compilation.

I like it, not a lot.

"Smash Hits - The 80s" is a superb collection of 80s hits but so much more than that, all the extras that you recieve with it are fantastic and you can spend ages enjoying this wonderful collector's item that is sure to delight all thoses who love the best decade of music.
If you are a fan of 1980s and the music from that wonderful area then this collections a must have, if you were around during those 10 years and a reader of "Smash Hits" magazine, you will no doubt enjoy it even more and all the happy memories will all come flooding back to you, I can guarantee it.
Fully recommened, a super release!

When driving it doesn't matter how cheesy or par ce a song is just as long as you can sing along to it and crank up the volume. With this box box set you get a mix of the loud, the power ballads and the downright dodgy all in one.

Some of the more delightful of offerings come from Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac and Chris Rea(Who has the driving anthems market covered in my view) Spun over three discs there are ample tunes to get you pipes around here. T'Pau, Phil Collins and The Cars, with their awesome "Drive" are there to give you your dosage of power ballads.

This CD will obviously appeal massively to dad's and would be a perfect fathers day present or birthday present but unfortunately I must confess that I love this box set ... Read More:
