The concept behind this double-CD is that eight characters from history have been gathered together in some mysterious future setting. The narration which introduces many of the tracks is pompous in tone and bewildering in content. But this is no problem. There are some stirring and catchy melodies along the way. Admittedly I had to listen to the whole album three or four times before I started to appreciate the songs, but catchy little phrases gradually took root in my mind and replayed over in my head long after the CD had ended. . '76 Kids ForeverSearch: Forever by: Sudden Sway Release Date May 26, 2003 76 Kids was the final release from Sudden Sway - one of the most influential and interesting bands of the early 80's. Their brand of electronic pop art had been honed to perfection throughout the late 70's and early 80's culiminating the staggering 'Ko Opera' album that preceded this release. 76 Kids is a more introspective work that deals with the issue of boring small town life and the need to escape it,(in real life two of the band had escaped Peterborough in the late 70's and made their way to London which makes this piece the most 'real' of all their work).The music is also less layered than the previous releases and this has the effect of pushing the lyrics to the fore making this hold together more like a Musical. The Philharmonia Orchestra is outstanding and the CD is worth buying just to listen to the overture. If I am being very picky then I have to say that the singing is a little uneven in parts; for my tastes Ninetta sometimes too dramatic; Giannetto too down beat. But nevertheless a 2-disc set I am very glad to own. |
