For anyone interested in post punk this is a decent intro but I can't help feeling there are better tracks out there by some of the bands represented on here. And yet perhaps the compilers didn't want to play safe and go for the obvious, but I could think of about a dozen pre-fame Human League tracks worthier of inclusion than the throwaway "Dancevision". In fairness, there is the great "lost" single "Violence Grows" by Fatal Microbes which encapsulates brilliantly the shift from punk rock to a more experimental angular sound. And Cabaret Voltaire's "Sluggin Fer Jesus" was a shape of things to come in the future with it's sampled sermon by an unidentified American preacher, but they recorded better, and "Diskono" would have been my preferred ... Stand alone single `Rat Race' is next before we move into less comfortable territory with double `a' `Stereotype' b/w `International Jet Set' and then `Do Nothing'. The magnificent `Ghost Town' is next together with both of its equally good b-sides `Why?' and `Friday Night, Saturday Morning'.

The idea of taking a bunch of new wave eighties classics, spraying them with French pheramones and adding some Astrid Gilberto Bossa Nova, may not appeal to everyone's taste. But nouvelle vague's original interpretations of these songs are so cheeky, irreverent and irresistable, I defy anyone not to instantly fall in love with them.
They have created the perfect chill out party album.
My favourite tracks are Sister of Mercy's 'MARIAN' and Tuxedomoon's 'IN A MANNER OF SPEAKING'. I'd not heard the original of this song, but this astonishing version is just beauty incarnate.
On the last track, a cover of The Specials 'FRIDAY NIGHT SATURDAY MORNING', a sultry, French chanteuse with the voice of an angel sings 'but the chip shop isn't closed/'cause ... Read More:
