Evil Dead: Original Broadway Cast Album

I love the Evil dead movies. I do mean love, so this review is tarnished by the fact that I loved this before I even heard it. But if you love the movies too, then this won't disappoint. If, like me, you can recite the scripts to all three films (or are familiar enough to recognise most of the major lines) then you'll have a constant grin on your face as they pop up in the most contrived places. The acting is such over-the-top cheese that you won't want a fondue (or in fact, anything else with cheese over the top) for years to come. But this is Evil Dead, not Shakespeare, and everything fits nicely. This double cd is truely fantastic. Fans of Troubleman records with bands such as Love Lost But Not Forgotten, The Red Scare and early Black Dice will love this. It is intelligent hardcore with amazing vocals and intricate, Slint-like instrumental passages in places. I've done enough name dropping to give people a clue what it sounds like but as always it just doesn't do it justice.

Basically a mix of rap/hip hop, urban, rock & metal, it invites favourable comparison with 1993's Judgement Night OST.

One or two songs that feature in the film, Paranoid (Black Sabbath) & Motorbreath (Metallica) come to mind, aren't included here but this is still a decent package for people willing to cross genres.

A fantastic collection of music ranging from the hard edge's of hip hop to the chilled out tunes of Lisa Barbuscia. If you like the rough with the smooth then this is definitely worth checking out. Even the dance music innovators Daft Punk make an apearance that must make this soundtrack on the way to being one of the best around.

Definitely joining my collection alongside the DVD of the film.
