Luke Kelly is untouchable as Ireland's finest popular traditional singer. This collection contains at least 3 essential and definitive tracks (I'll let you find out which ones). Anyone with even a remote interest in folk or traditional music needs to hear these songs.
On a slightly negative note regarding Luke Kelly collections (and Dubliners collections in general) is that you need to buy a couple of them to get all their best tracks. I wish someone would reissue the original Major Minor LPs on CD.
Anybody who enjoys this collection might hunt down a Dubliners CD with "The Galway Races" - I think its one of Luke Kellys most enjoyable performances and its a real belter of a tune as well.

Ah, come on, three classic Pogue albums for a few quid, you can't go wrong here. You'll be playing these for years to come, unless the electricity runs out, in which case buy a generator and put 'em back on.
I'm not sure if these are remastered. I suspect not, so audiophiles might be better off buying separately, but they'll be more than good enough for most people.
The first two albums are essential for any Pogues fan. The third contains some classic tracks and also some that sound like The Spinners or almost any Irish pub-folk act at your local beer festival, but it's still worth having.

Probably worth the purchase price for the epic "The Band Played Maltzing Matilda" alone, this is a awesome recording and was maybe the highest height the Pogues ever reached.
Classic folk mixed with no-nonsense punk, the band show a youth and vigour that was never quite recaptured and McGowan is on top form with penned tracks like the sweet romantic "Pair of Brown Eyes" or the drunken riot of "Sick Bed of Cuchulainn". Add to this some traditional songs given the Pogues treatment (Navigator and Jesse James both stand out for attention) and you have the ingredients for a wonderful album.
