The five albums Johnny Cash made during his brief tenure at Mercury Records between 1987 and 1991 are not regarded as among his most essential as he and the label did not see eye to eye, so a compilation such as this is probably a good way of sampling them. The bulk of the compilation is taken from Water From The Wells Of Home (1988), in fact 9 of its 10 tracks are included. It is a quirky album mostly comprising Cash sharing vocal duties with a bunch of stellar friends, including Waylon Jennings, Emmylou Harris, Roy Acuff and Tom T Hall, to mixed effect. Christ! Yet another compilation selected by the office bog cleaner. Make that the shadow of the office bog cleaner. But wait! Why am I picking on good honest workers when this whole shameful 'compiling' process is carried out by the reptiles who...ugh...aargh...'own' this music? Nothing more to say other than this compilation (which of course contains some of the most perfect songwriting ever committed to good old analogue tape) was put together by a clueless tone deaf slug.

I bought this double album out of curiosity. I’m not a massive country fan, but have always loved Billie Jo Spears (I'm pleased "Blanket On The Ground" and "What I've Got In Mind" are here) and some of the other artists who appear on this compilation. - Roy Orbison, Don McLean, Glen Campbell, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash. I also wanted to hear particular tracks – Ned Miller’s “From A Jack To A King” and Crystal Gayle’s “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue”.
However, I was blown away by Juice Newton's version of "Angel Of The Morning" (what a fantastic voice she has). I also love the following track by Tim McGraw, “Please Remember Me”. These are so stunning I've ... Read More:
