Well, it depends what you want from a Rake whether this is the recording for you. Conducting, orchestra and some of the cast are superb. Sarah Walker's Baba is the best you'll find and Sam Ramey is in fine, though rather inexpressive voice as Shadow. Terfel is by far the more interesting interpreter but his voice either shouts or whispers with nothing in-between. His interpretation is unrealistic theatrically too and makes his difficult to bear repeated listening. I don't warm to Pope's rather lumpy Anne on this recording and she doesn't compare to Upshaw's glorious singing for Nagano but still better than the undernourished sound of York for Gardener. For the past three years since I first heard "Roseability" I have loved the sounds of this Scottish four-piece. There is a great choice of songs for all, rocky and hard hitting like "Little Discourage" and "Roseability" to slower, calmer ballads of "Let me sleep....."

A wonderful album that anyone should have!

The best of some of the best, check out the earlier albums too for more of this great music!

To be perfectly honest, Idlewild was the first band I ever saw live. I went along to please my new boyfriend. By the end of the evening, I ended up loving him and hating the music. Two years on, I no longer have the bloke, but love the band.

Idlewild is the ultimate in your face answer for the wannabe indie kid who works hard in school but likes to kick (some) ass on the weekend. After the frenetic energy of Captain, Idlewild seem to have matured into an act to be reckoned with. If moshing's your thing, you'll end up happily bruised. But for the quiet sophisticate - nay, the music afficionado - there's still a lot to enjoy. And the lyrics are to die for.

Since buying this albumn idlewild have become one of my favourite bands. There may be a few weaker tracks on the albumn but the rest is raw, really energetic, great music. Not quite as polished as the fantastic 100 broken windows but when u hear tracks such as "paint nothing" and "when i argue i see shapes" you'll rock out. Fantastic.
