This is a great band and this is a great album. It is fresh, has an edge and pretty much impossible to classify. They deserve to be huge and I hope they come and play in the UK. I was brought up on 70's UK rock (and great it was). 40 something, I now find that I like bands like Counting Crows or Hootie and the Blowfish, but so many stick with one formula. PF don't.

This is a great band and this is a great album. It is fresh, has an edge and pretty much impossible to classify. They deserve to be huge and I hope they come and play in the UK. The boys from Brisbane have created a fantastic rock cd. The album morphs from pop to rock to soulful blues. It captures whatever mood you're in and then takes you to a verandah in Queensland in the shade of a jacaranda tree with a cold beer in your hand. You can't ask for more than that.

ERIN HORGAN! How this person could call themselves a music fan, let alone a rock fan, is beyond me. ONLY LISTENED TO IT TWICE! this is what gets me most. The best of albums take anything between 5-15 listens to be able to really see the quality. Idiot.

I have listened to this album again and again and just when i thought i'd overplayed it it seem fresh again after a short brake.

Powderfinger's albums get progressively better from parables to vulture street. And Parables for wooden ears is pretty good. This is my favourite album in my collection (and of anything else i've heard). Can't wait for there next album.

Which would be a pity, because it's an equally fine compilation, comprising three elements. The Savoy Orpheans recordings date from between 1937 and 1946, those with the Boyfriends fall between 1931 and 1934, and two piano duets with Harry Jacobson date from from late 1933.

Carroll's distinctive piano style is aptly described by Malcolm Laycock in his informative liner note as "the pivot around which everything else hung".
