. TrawlerSearch: Granite by: Oysterband Release Date October 01, 1994 This brilliant stuff deserves a very special place in my cd-collection, right next to my other oysterband albums. I bought the record after having heard "One Green Hill" on the "Disagreement of the People" compilation. I adore their lyrics as well as their folky sound. "20th of April" and "Love Vigilantes" just rule. These folk-rock pioneers are enormously underappriciated. Certainly check out "Shouting End of Life" and "Holy Bandits". You'll be smashed. |

If you sit down and listen to this quite exceptional best of - a double no less, which says a lot about their output - you will be astonished anew by their musical range, the depth of their musical and lyrical ability, and the uncommon fact that they actually seem to be getting better. Their last CD, not referenced on this retrospective, is possibly their best. I saw them live again recently and they delivered a thumping greatest hits set featuring many of the songs on this collection, proving that they boast a back catalogue that most artists would die for. Great band. |

With Deserters, it all came together. The infectious opening 'All that way for this' and 'The Deserter' with it's Big Country like chours signal that Oysterband are the real deal. Granite Years has become a fan favourite and a staple at all Oysterband shows. In my opinion, this album and the subsequent 'Holy Bandits' are nothing short of brilliant. These are essential records for anyone's collection. |

Handy little booklet included with lots of detail of artists and songs. The 3 CDs track the evolution of English folk music from vocal only to the sympathetic and integral use of electric instruments. |
