Let me begin my saying that such a low price for 101 songs is great value in any case, but when around 95 of the songs are brilliant, it's bargain basement stuff.

This is a wonderful collection of country music hits. It is fair to say that the majority of tracks here are from the golden age of country music, but interspersed throughout the album are a few catchy modern tracks that make the collection beautifully balanced, allowing for a smoother, less overwhelming experience for the modern listener. Many of the tracks are instantly recognisable, with all the massive hits there, "The Gambler", "9 to 5", "Always on my Mind", "Ring of Fire" to name a few. Completely disagree with other reviewer, and seeing he bought it at a sale he shouldn't be carping. My wife bought this set for me as a Christmas present [from Amazon] a few years ago, and I love it. It states plainly on the Box that these are the Nashville Years recordings from 1961-1965, and that is the main reason I wanted this set, as I regard these items as some of Burl Ives greatest recordings, as marrying that unique voice to some great songs is a work of genius. This set contains a vast wealth of the various Styles that Burls' voice fitted like a glove. You have Cowboy Songs, Gospel Songs, Hawaiian Songs, 1940's. Pop songs ie. By the Light of the Sivery Moon,Jealous, Melancholy Baby etc.,and of course Burls' own Country hits plus some great covers ... Read More:

I bought this in the hopes of hearing the classic Tom Jones. Definitely disappointed. The "Best" of is Mr Jones covering his own songs, departing so far from the originals in style and over-production that it tears bullet holes in the soul. Ordinarily I would cringe at "another" re-release of a greatest hits of any artist, but this is in a whole new league of it's own.

I shudder to think at what minds thought this was a good idea. Frankly, I'm holding back. I give one star because I can't give less, and I give this review because to say how I really feel would make me a potty mouth.

Definitely not the "Best of Tom Jones", in case I wasn't clear.
