. British Music CollectionSearch: Group 4 by: Various Artists Release Date May 14, 2001 Two great classics of the gramophone at a seriously low price is a real bargain. The first recording of Britten's Serenade is still (pardon the pun) peerless. Recorded in 1944 with a youthful Peter Pears and the inimitable Dennis Brain, it captures the work when the ink was still barely dry. Pears was significantly younger when this recording was made than on the stereo remake from the 60's. The voice is fresher and more mellifluous than ever. This pays big dividends in the opening Pastoral, in Tennyson's elfland horn calls and in the evocation of the chaste and fair queen. The Lyke Wake Dirge is perfectly steady and perfectly intonated. Perhaps only the Keats Sonnet at the end carries more weight in the later performance. ... Read More: |

Mezzanine: Limited Edition [VINYL]Search: Group 4 by: Massive Attack Release Date April 06, 1998 Teardrop is obviously the stand out song from this album and is most likely the soul reason why people buy it, but whilst being quite different from the other tracks it fits in somehow. This is the kind of album you can just go out to, travel, and it suits urban surroundings so much its almost cinematic. Whilst Angel and Teardrop are the strongest songs, Dissolved Girl and Rising Son both have bags of catchy melody. Rising Son and Group Four have similar patterns in that they both end up breaking down the song into one very catchy riff of some sort, making it the pinnacle of the song. Although the album does sound very drug inducing, it can be enjoyed either way really. One downside to the album is some of the repetitiveness from one of the vocalists, ... Read More: |
