Often called `the Rolls Royce of box sets, this 4 CD set is beautifully presented, with lots of rare photos and detailed liner notes about all the tracks. It's not the ideal introduction to Hendrix, more a rich source of interest and discovery for those who already know his work.
The set has a healthy dose (about 50%) of rare, unreleased and un-bootlegged material, with a good mix of live and studio stuff. There are some real gems, such as It's Too Bad (about Jimi's brother Leon), rehearsals for the 1969 Albert Hall shows and two songs from the Experience's second ever concert in Paris in 1966.
As a bookend, Jimi's last studio recording, an incomplete slow blues, is also included. In between, there are live tracks ... Read More:

I've loved the Small Faces for a few years now, which begs the question why I hadn't heard a lot of these songs, one reason is before the compilation explosion of this bands material on CD, it was usually just the Decca A-sides i. e. All or Nothing etc. that you would get to hear. The Decca Anthology is a must have for any Small Faces fan who isn't fortunate enough to have all the original albums and singles from the first part of their career. The band sound fantastic, and although the later immediate stuff is incredible, this shows Steve and the boys at a no nonsense, get down to business phase. Great Hammond, great vocals great everything! Even more amazing, as pointed out in the sleeve notes, they were only 19 on a lot of the recordings???? Buy ... Read More:

From The Beginning was released in 1967 as a spoiler by Decca, the Small Faces' old label, to coincide with the release of their new album on the Immediate label entitled Small Faces (confusingly, the only album they made for Decca was also self-titled). The Small Faces did not especially appreciate the gesture, and made a point of specifically discouraging people from buying From The Beginning in the advertising for their new album.
From The Beginning contained all the hits they had had with Decca (What'cha Gonna Do About It, Sha-La-La-La-Lee, Hey Girl, All Or Nothing and My Mind's Eye), available on any number of compilations, alongside a number of previously unreleased recordings. These and are now the chief attraction of this CD re-issue. ... Read More:
