There are numerous great value compilation sets of classical music claiming to have the power of relaxation - Classic FM alone have a few variants such as `Relax', `Relax More' and `Time to Relax' - and all appear to offer the ultimate relaxing experience so it's a difficult task to decide which to buy.

There is no `best' compilation though for it's a matter of personal choice, but there are several advantages of choosing the Classic FM range of relaxation therapy. A truely magical mixture of piano and orchestral music which I cannot recommend highly enough. You can also buy the sheet music for piano which accompanies this C.D (also entitled 'quiet room'). A favourite Christmas present.

This has become an annual release, though this year they have dropped the "No 1" from the middle of the title. As well as being a compilation of light classical music it acts as a showcase, or sampler, of albums currently available in the genre from the Universal and Sony/BMG labels.

This is not to say that all the tracks, or the artists spotlighted, are brand new; there is an enormous age range of both, from the burgeoning talent of Katherine Jones and Hayley Westenra, through the established greatness of Bryn Terfel and Kiri te Kanawa, to the archived voices of Mario Lanza and Kathleen Ferrier.

Just about all imaginable styles are covered, too - opera, film scores, virtuoso instrumentals, variations on themes, sacred music, and ... Read More:

Blue in Blue

I discovered the music of Patrick Hawes through ClassicFM and their consistent playing of 'Pavane' and 'Quanta Qualia.' These two recordings are wonderfully crafted and one cannot help but be moved by 'Pavane' - a truly outstanding composition. This CD has become a firm favourite alongside Einaudi's brilliant 'Una Mattina' and 'Echoes' , Thomas Newman's "American Beauty" Soundtrack, Philip Glass' "The Hours", and the recent soundtrack to 'The Girl With the Pearl Earring'.

This CD is no risk - sit back, relax and enjoy the blend of brilliant compositions. Now in a new Special Edition, I suppose I will have to buy-it all over again!
