I bought this disc for the transcription of Richardsons' "London Fantasia" which as far as I know is the only one available on CD.
It is a good disc overall though; they are not rerecordings but transcribed 78rpm originals, ranging from the commonly available pieces ("Portrait of a Flirt","In Party Mood", "Coronation Scot") to some light pieces not so frequently met with now (the utterly charming "Bubbling Over", and "Wooden Shoes"). I've put only 4 stars because the transcription quality is not of the best, although adequate copies have been used. The more popular tunes are available from better originals (see "The Great British Experience" as an extremely desirable double CD in this line) but the rarer ones are welcome even if a trifle ... Many will be glad to find the axed Radio 4 early morning folk-tune collage kept for posterity here. The RPO sounds a little thin in places, especially in the transcribed military marches, but plays its programme with unmistakable affection and much warmth. At such a low price this deserves a place in the collection of every light music buff.
