I've had this CD set since it first came out several years ago. Only recently have I really listened to it. The 1903 acoustic recordings have aged well, and sound surprisingly good for 105 year old primitive recording technology. Male voices record surprisingly well; female voices somewhat less so. Whay really impressed me, however, are the trills sung by Madame Schumann-Heink! Normally, I don't like that sound in opera, but I love the way she sings them. I've just ordered two double CDs of her Victor recordings.
I also enjoy the rest of the CDs. They are great as a sampler of early opera singers who were the first to record in America. They may start you on a musical voyage that may get you hooked on early classical singers. Highly ... Read More:
