Heard 'Come Summertime' on the radio and thought first, yes I wish it would come and then secondly think I'll take a punt on this fellow, he sounds good. Was I disappointed ? Certainly not, this is a fine fine album both musically and lyrically. The very excellent sleeve notes tell me Justin is from Toronto, Canada and he co-produced the album with David Baxter. The six-piece band plays electric guitars, acoustic guitar, pedal steel, piano, organ, harmonica, banjo and drums with guests on accordian, violin, trumpet and flugelhorn.
Vocally, Justin is very pleasant on the ear, sounding like a Iain Matthews/Josh Rouse/Neal Casal mixed blend. Guesting on track 9 is Greg Keelor on track 10 is Jim Cuddy both from Blue Rodeo.

I regret buying this. Yes, it's very interesting to compare the duplicate versions, especially wondering about the old arguments about the speeding-up (or not) of the original recordings...but now when I come to play this out of simple love for this wonderful music, I'm annoyed at having to skip over the unwanted duplicates, and wish I'd stuck to buying CDs of the original two separate 1961 LP versions. In pretty well every case, I think they got it right, which version to choose etc.
