This a good collection of soft rock and pop from 1971 although the omission of Carole King’s It’s Too Late is a pity – it spent many weeks at No. 1 that year and is a perfect example of the soft rock style of the time. I Am I Said is one of my favourite songs by Neil Diamond, a lament about being torn between New York and Los Angeles. If by Bread is a slow, gentle ballad but She’s A Lady by UK artist Tom Jones isn’t particularly soft at all, more like power pop in his booming voice. Me And You And A Dog Named Boo is a lovely country number and Put Your Hand In The Hand is an engaging gospel number with a propulsive rhythm.
