...but their effect was diluted by the likes of The Darkness and The Backstreet Boys. This album is a reasonably enjoyable compilation of what are, for the most part, middle-of-the-road songs, pleasant enough for background music. Personal highlights include "Purple Rain" by Prince and "This Year's Love" by David Gray (which has a legitimate claim as one of "the most moving songs of all time", unlike Michelle McManus' offering which one can only assume was put on as some sort of comic relief). I was also surprised to find that I enjoyed the N Sync track -- very mellow and understated. Overall though, I wouldn't recommend shelling out for this album. Better to invest in the individual artists' own albums (Aretha, REM, David Gray, etc) and ... Read More:

Being the strongest competition to the NOW That's What I Call Music! no matter how hard they try, HITS compilation will never beat more than 20 years of NOW!
The CD is a good mix of today's popular hits, but there are a lot of misses and there are songs which was not necessary to put here.
Track Listings Disc: 1 1. Will & Gareth - The Long & Winding Road (No1) The Pop Idols together with a good cover of the Beatles hit. 2. Holly Valance - Down Boy (No2) Holly's follow-up to "Kiss Kiss" is good. 3. Las Ketchup - The Ketchup Song (Asereje) (No1) Great tune. 4. Big Brovaz - Nu Flow (No3) chart debut for Big Brovaz. 5. Liberty X - Got To Have Your Love (No2) Excellent. It's bigger and better ... Read More:

Having previously mislaid my copies of Chronicles 1 & 2, spotted this today and thought it would be an ideal replacement.
On the plus side, the tracks have been remastered since the above compilations were released and they have never sounded better,
taking 18 of the 20 tracks from Volume 1 (ignoring "Commotion" and "Someday Never Knows"), and 6 of the best from Volume 2.
Great to have this huge 24 track selection on one disc, but in order to squeeze them all on, the 11 minute guitar workout on "I Heard It Through The Grapevine"
has been sacrificed, and replaced instead with a 4 minute edit. (Still have the original on mp3 anyway!)
I may have a dodgy pressing but having already exchanged it twice, ... Read More:

This set is fantastic, in that it covers Nina`s career from her very first recordings for Bethlehem (including of course My Baby Just Cares For Me)right up to the title track from her last album Single Woman(which has just been reissued with some great bonus tracks). Along the way there are numerous brilliant previously unreleased tracks and live recordings, including several from the terrific A Very Rare Evening set. Needless to say with Nina the performances are committed, sometimes quirky and often electrifying. And the dvd performances are long overdue for issue. What`s not so good is the omission of anything from Nina`s Back, Live at Ronnie Scott`s or Fodder In Her Wings, and it would have been wonderful to have the complete Very Rare Evening; tapes ...
