Release Date March 13, 2000
I agree with the previous reviewer that the composition of this CD is something of a contrivance. Vocalion made amends subsequently by releasing a CD devoted to Syd Lipton (CDEA 6102 - "Looking On The Bright Side") but Sydney Kyte still has but half a disc to his name.
I also echo his assessment of the compilation, and would just add that "The Procession Of The Sirdar" was an early example of a classical piece (from "Caucasian Sketches" by Ippolitov-Ivanov) being given a popular arrangement. If I were to rate the two Syds I'd place Lipton marginally ahead of Kyte on the basis of this compilation, which doesn't show the latter's output off to best advantage. I do hope that Vocalion will redress that situation one of these days.
