I don't really know what happened with this album. I remain a steadfast fan of Rebecca Pidgeon since her earliest days, and I've always enjoyed traditional Scottish folk music. What could go wrong?
This album is a real departure for Rebecca in terms of style. She does a very good job of singing the traditional folk songs. Fear A Bhata works well, as does The Four Marys and the Twa Corbies. Thematically the songs are typically Celtic in theme, of which it is said the fighting songs are happy and the love songs are sad. Rebecca's voice is outstandingly pure and lovely, as always, but you don't want to hear her sing this sort of material.
But there are so many, many, other artists who do folk better. If you want good traditional ... Read More:

Folklorist and singer Margaret Bennett, with the help of son Martyn and other friends, captures the essence of folk music in this fresh and authentic recording. With Gaelic, Scots and Irish-via-Newfoundland songs, the feeling of a 'kitchen session' is recreated, real people singing with the same skill and naturalness with which they go about their other business, celebrating and commenting on their past, present and future and the trials and tribulations of life. The music is of the highest quality - you can hear every word and note - with accompaniments that complement perfectly Margaret's high clear plangent voice. Produced by Martyn, and recorded on Mull, the acoustic feel and physical presence of the musicians is wonderfully rendered - you ... Read More:

Before Dick Gaughan decided that hissing and snarling his way through tracks could pass as artistic indignation, he produced a magnificent body of works - notably Handful of Earth, but also True and Bold, Live in Edinburgh, Gaughan and others. He was the one performer I played more than any other during the 1990s and as such occupies a monumental place in my interest in music ... and I'm sure that of many others. Tracks such as 'Now Westlin Winds', 'Jamie Foyers', and others are just incredible. 'No More Forever' was Gaughan's first album and quite outstanding (my outstanding tracks would be 'The Three Healths' and the Napoleonic classic 'The Green Linnet'), but the whole album flows magnificently. Strangely Gaughan seems to be ambivolent about ... Read More:
