This album may be old, or pretty out of date, as some would put it, but to me it's like a classic. I've had this album for quite a while and every single time I listen to it, a new and deeper meaning in the lyrics and music is revealed to me. I used to find this album quite 'chilling' the indie music would just strike a chord somewhere and I'd find myself in a trance, staring into space! All the songs are excellent, each in its own individual way. I like the Dubstar song the most, they may not be popular anymore, but during their time they created some thrilling music. I would reccommend this album to anyone!

This CD features 18 tracks covering a good variety of tunes from 90s indie bands. Its a little more clever than some compilations, as the tunes are not necessarily the obvious hits from the key bands. As a result, great songs from Supergrass, The Auteurs, These Animal Men, Mansun and McAlmont & Butler make for a great hark back to the heyday of Brit pop. Perhaps it would have been good to include some of the lesser hits from Blur and Oasis, but at the price you really can't complain. Great value, and a nice, un-obvious compilation. Worth it for anthems like the title track and The Supernaturals' 'Smile' on their own.

I came to this work late, having earlier obtained and reviewed Reznicek's subsequent tone poem, 'Der Sieger' ('The Winner'). For more information about Emil Nikolaus von Reznicek (1860-1945) please see my 'Sieger' review at AmazonUS. The two works go together (and there was a third, 'Frieden' ['Peace'] but it has been lost). This earlier (1912) 45-minute work is about one of life's anti-heroes, immortalized in the Yiddish word 'schlemiel.' This is the guy who can't do anything right and whose life goes from bad to worse. Unfortunately this is an apt description of the composer's own life. (Actually he was more of a 'schlimazel', but that's pedantry on my part, I suppose.) What is touching is that not only did he know it, he was able to make ... Read More:
