For many, this is the most moving oratorio ever written - not just because its principal subject matter is so emotive, but because musically and philosophically, it is a work of immense spirituality.

Tippett wrote his own libretto. One that, with searing insight, forces us to face the 'shadow' (the dark side) of humanity and recognise the 'glory of light'.

I cannot listen to this work now without being moved to tears at least twice; every time when the incarcerated teenager screams to his desperate mother: 'I will defy the world to reach you!'.

I bought this out of curiosity...used to love ArKane back in the late eighties and wish there was more of their kind of guitar chaos around these days. Those expecting another '69' will be disappointed since this mini lp more clearly resembles the last ArKane album 'new clear child' - infact a couple of tracks are remixes from that LP. 'New Age Golden Dream' is about the best track followed by 'Silvery Union'. I was not best impressed 'Amelia-Mu' which is let down by a so-so vocal performance from Alex. The Arkane remixes are worth a listen but overall the impression is that Alex should have either have released the new tracks on an E.P or waited until he had enough material to fill an album or 2 now remember 'i'?
