I will admit that when I first saw the track listing for this CD, I felt disappointed. "Come on!" I thought, "Katherine should be more original than this! Practically every soprano records 'O Mio Babbino Caro' at one point or another, and here are two common songs from the classical crossover genre, 'Nella Fantasia' and 'The Prayer'. Should I even invest in something that will only be a re-hash of things I have already heard many times?" In the end however, I decided that even with the unimaginative song selections, I would buy this CD.
I am very glad I did! There are so many gems here that I now consider this Katherine's best album. Surprisingly, "Nella Fantasia" instantly became a favorite of mine. Her rich, warm tones really ... Read More:

This is one of those albums you fall in love with completely. Cerys has possibly the most beautiful voice that can possibly exist and when she whispers these songs - all in Welsh - you feel a connection. They are almost tactile in their ability to touch your soul. I'm English and don't speak Welsh, but second only to a date with Cerys herself, this has to be the best reason to learn some of the language... She has produced her finest work since leaving Catatonia, yet there are too many fans who hark back to those days. Yes, Catatonia were good, but her solo work is stunning and really deserves greater recognition!
This is one of several import variations of the original 2006 Serenade album by Katherine Jenkins. Mostly these will attract a higher price and appeal primarily to the collector, and in this case to those who find one additional (although unspecified) bonus track worthy of adding to their collection. The enthusiasm of Katherine's fan base will determine the commercial success of this album, although I can appreciate the difficulty in justifying buying another Serenade album even if that additional track was specified. My original Serenade review is shown here:
Serenade, released in 2006, is the 4th album by Katherine Jenkins and just like her previous ones this too enjoyed huge commercial success, reaching No. 1 in the classical ... Read More:

The first album (from 1989), two singles and a new-ish song, make for an interesting document, charting Twm's trajectory from enthusiastic but pastily produced traditional folk (the take on "Pontypridd" is sensational; the rest, not so good) via a genuine modern Welsh folk/pop idiom (the alternative versions of "Swn" and "Dacw'n Nghariad" are splendid), to a more rockier combo which, on "Y Bont" and "Blin" don't quite have the bit that Gedon and Gwbade Bach Cochion had, which is a pity.
