this cd will make you sit back and really listen. the content is of the highest quality in selected choice. beautiful piano pieces in the highest of recorded quality. classics like The Music of the Night (Phantom Of The Opera) - Andrew Lloyd Webber
will have you whistling along, while others will bring tears to your eyes. well worth the money, cant wait for the next compilation (though i doubt that they could find many better tracks that this one). :)

Bolet's Liszt has won all the plaudits so I don't really need to add my own, but I will anyway!

This is a fabulous selection, beautifully boxed by Phillips, of Bolet's twilight-years' recordings of Liszt's piano music on Decca. If you don't want to collect all of Bolet's output (and I think you should) then this is an inexpensive introduction to what you've been missing all these years. The qualities that made Bolet the finest Lisztian of his day are all here: power, control, romance and limpid, crystalline articulation.

I heard him play in Bath the year before he died. I shall never forget it. Nobody who was there ever will.

This concert captured the young Russian at his best and the recording engineers managed to do him justice in the fine piano sound. Really each piece is performed wonderfully: the Schumann Abegg Variations have grace and subtle tonal control; the Symphonic Studies have variety of mood & enough tension to make the half hour work a triumph. In the Liszt pieces, Kissin displays a more outward virtuosity especially in the flamboyant Rhapsodie Espagnol, where power becomes an asset. The final piece, Widmung, has some magical runs which are truly spine tingling when played like this! The concert was rightly a tiumph & stands up to repeated listening, such is the quality of playing & recording.
