I was incredibly excited about purchasing this piece of work.I've seen EC touring and listened to most of his albums, particularly the blues oriented ones (some of the solo albums can be bland e.g. August- not a description that can be used for the live sound created both here and on other discs such both the Crossroads DVDs).
Disapointed at all? No - it feels as if EC has taken the essence of the original RJ material and delivered it in a manner that makes the most of current recording techniques, whilst delivering the spirit of Blues as it is meant to be. I've not heard a better sounding blues album! The complementary guitar work of EC & Doyle Bramhall II is exemplary throughout - and especially the acoustic section. Bramhall follows ... Read More:

I regret buying this. Yes, it's very interesting to compare the duplicate versions, especially wondering about the old arguments about the speeding-up (or not) of the original recordings...but now when I come to play this out of simple love for this wonderful music, I'm annoyed at having to skip over the unwanted duplicates, and wish I'd stuck to buying CDs of the original two separate 1961 LP versions. In pretty well every case, I think they got it right, which version to choose etc.

Well, i must say it is rather convenient to release and album of exactly the same works as the album you just released a couple of months ago. The only difference being its a 'live studio recording' and includes a DVD.
OF COURSE, for EC fans this album is essential. How could any of us pas up the opportunity to watch EC and a DVD playing and talking about the music thta inspired him.
However, i would say the dvd is a little dissapointing - for one the band are dressed in jeans and t shirts. I think they really could have made more of an effort and i think it makes the whole think seem a little less professional.
Also, the interviews with EC are nto hugely novel or engaging and there is a total lack of any commentry ... Read More:
