Mr Pegg's Birthday Bash in 2007 was a celebration of a musical career, beginning with blues/pop and running through Ian Cambell, Fairport, Jethro Tull and featuring artists Pegg has worked with such as Steve Ashley, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Anna Ryder & Ralph McTell.
This album captures most of the concert. Notable highlights are Ian Campbell, Dave Swarbrick and Dave Pegg performing together, and an old lineup of Jethro Tull is recreated for two songs - with Ian Anderson in fine voice and flute for Locomotive Breath. Dan Ar Braz performs a touching version of Sandy Denny's "Rising for the Moon."

This is a great introduction to the wonders of '70's rock . Most of the top bands from the era make an appearance and for a change not with all the usual songs , so Deep Purple have Fireball instead of Smoke on the flippin' water , Focus have House of the king (theme from "Saxondale" for you youngsters) rather then the obligatory Hocus Pocus, Hawkwind have Hury on Sundown and not Silver Machine, etc . Any album that includes Curved air, Argent,Nazareth and Be Bop Deluxe (all of whom are usually overlooked on these compilations) has got to be worth your money. minus two stars for the uninspired selection of Paranoid for the hundred and ninetieth time but plus one for the inclusion of Apache dropout. An excellent compilation for anyone with even ... Read More:

"Aqualung" is certainly the rawest of Jethro Tull's albums, as far from the artistic pretensions of "Thick as a Brick" and "Passion Play" as you can get in terms of their albums. This might have something to do with the album's mission statement, which is printed in old fashioned type on the linear notes: "In the beginning Man created God; and in the image of Man created he him....But as all these things did come to pass, the Spirit that did cause man to create his God lived on with all men: even within Aqualung. And man saw it not. But for Christ's sake he'd better start looking." Ironically, this is one of the few Jethro Tull albums where the lyrics are not printed despite the fact this is arguably the album where the lyrics mattereth the most. Read More:

I could not disagree more strongly with the previous reviewer. Anderson has led Tull for years with edgy rock using contrast and texture to great effect. This effort is bland in the extreme, excellent musicianship but devoid of excitement and really does nothing to enhance existing versions of the various songs. This lot needs to be filed with the pointless reworkings included on the Christmas album.
I am thinking of building a lift on the side of my house and putting this album on permament rotation as elevator music, because thats what it is.

It is with great pleasure I can write a glowing review of a new release from the Tull after the half hearted Christmas Album and Live with an Orchestra. I have bad memories of this particular tour nevertheless the album starts spritely enough, although With You There To Help Me will never match the orignal from Benefit. We are taken for an amble nicely enough though Pavane, Empty Cafe, Eurology and why on earth include God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen?
Things start to get really tasty on disc 2. Beside Myself is worth the price alone a masterpiece stunningly played. Some minutes later the brooding drone of the intro to Budapest promises classic live Tull. Indeed brilliant it is and then at about 8 minutes 30 seconds Ian and boys kick the carpet ... Read More:
