New York Dolls [VINYL]

Search: Lonely Planet Boy
by: New York Dolls

Release Date March 31, 2008
The first New York Dolls album is a fun collection of rock n' roll songs, but it really suffers from a lack of low end. The bass is almost inaudible even on my super bass heavy home stereo. That concern aside, what you're left with is an otherwise nicely produced record, with some well executed and fun ideas. The only real negative is the phase effect on the drums in "Vietnamese Baby".

Most of the songs on the record are based around that rhythm guitar style that Chuck Berry made famous, and that you'll hear on a lot of Status Quo records. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of it. Private World: The Complete Early Studio Demos 1972-1973

Search: Lonely Planet Boy
by: The New York Dolls

Release Date February 26, 2008
This 2 cd collection doesn't include anything not heard before , but is handy for new fans who don't want to wade through the mountains of dodgy demo compilations in the Dolls back catalog.
Disc 1 tracks 1 to 9 are really the Mercer St Sessions from 1972 which were originally released as "Lipstick Killers" on cassette only in 1981.That release (now on CD) is now effectively redundant.
Most of the rest of Disc 1 and the whole of disc2 has previously been issued as "Seven Day Weekend" , and can also be found on "Great Big Kiss" and several other archival collections.
As for the music itself, if you know the Dolls studio albums, then you will love this. Its the same songs in rawer versions. If you don't know the Dolls at all you should buy "New ... Read More:

Search: Lonely Planet Boy
by: New York Dolls

Release Date May 27, 2008
Outstanding album by one of the best bands ever, personally crisis and looking for a kiss are both on this live great album.

Also the last track is not lonely planet boy but a cant put your are around a memory/lonely plaint boy medley.

I am giving this album four out of five because it is just a bit short!
