Electrelane's debut album, Let's Rock It To The Moon (2001), was packed with raw energy and tension. Developed over eleven dense instrumentals, the band's sound was built around hypnotic bass lines and abrasive guitars and Farfisa riffs. Heavily influenced by the krautrock movement, this album reinforced the impression created with their previous series of EPs that Electrelane were something of a unique outfit.

Originally formed in Brighton in 1998 around Verity Susman, Emma Gaze, Mia Clarke and Rachel Dalley, the band found themselves very much in demand after the release of their debut album and toured almost constantly for some time. Atkins fans will be queueing up for this Bear Family set, comprising his complete solo output for RCA Victor between 1955-60. As usual with Bear Family,the sound quality is superb, as are the comprehensive session details. If, like me, you already own "Stringin' Along", "Hi Fi In Focus", "Chet Atkins At Home", "Workshop", and the rest, but your old LPs are feeling their age, go out and get this. The SESAC label rarity, "The Best Chet Yet", is included - a copy of this last LP alone would set you back at least the price of the CD set.

For me, the standout features are the several "alternate takes" from the "Workshop" album - no doubt these are Atkins' studio cuts before he re-worked the songs in the privacy of his home facility. There ... Read More:

I dont know off the top of my head where I heard of Brandi Carlile but I can tell you i dont regret it for a minute. After a few weeks of frustatingly listening to her off YouTube I bought this album and her self-titled album.

This album combines folk, rock, country and soul in one amazing package. Highlights for me are the opening track "Late Morning Lullaby", "Turpentine" which Carlile wrote as a teenager, "Have You Ever" and "The Story", the last two written by Brandi's band mate Phil Hanseroth who plays and sings harmonies on most tracks and forms Brandi's touring band along with his brother Tim (who co-wrote a few on the album too). "Josephine" is a rootsy, old style folk tune with perfect 3-part harmony and simple guitar picking. ... Read More:
