This has been heralded as THE post CCR Fogerty album. In late 1984 when I first heard "Old Man Down the Road" I was jubilant that AT last John was making music again. Listening to the cd years later it sounds a little "dry" and artificial as though John is trying hard to recreate the sound his music formerly had. The reason it doesn;t quite succeed is because he doesn't have a good bassist or drummer here to back him(choosing instead to do it all himself.)

There has been so much animosity traded between former members that a CCR reunion seems eternally out of the question- but NO ONE has backed John as well as the other guys in Creedence did. It was the perfect combination. Had this been a CCR album it would have been a classic. ... Read More:

When John Fogerty made his comeback in 1985, after ten years of abscense, "Centerfield" shot to #1 with a bullet, not on the "old, uncool rock records" list, but on the Billboard 200.

That was an obvious triumph for Fogerty, and a testament to his immense popularity that he managed to survive ten years (an eternity in the record business) almost without being heard of, only to return in such a manner. Who else besides The Beatles, The Eagles and Led Zeppelin could possibly hope for anything like that?

The funny thing is that the album itself is good, but not truely great ("Blue Moon Swamp" is a much better record). Light-hearted pop-rockers dominate "Centerfield", and there is absolutely nothing on here as good as his best ... Read More:
