If this guy could have been handed an electric guitar, nobody would give a damn about Hendrix. Even if you're not used to hearing proper acoustic blues, make the effort and you'll be blown away by how much a man could achieve with only his voice, his guitar and one crackly track to get the song down on. I guess that selling your soul to the devil is cheating a bit though...
I give this particular compilation only 4 stars because, although a good introduction to one of the greatest musicians ever, there are other comps with everything he did, and for not much more dough. So forget your limp emo or skater-punk nonsense and discover this cool bloke.

I regret buying this. Yes, it's very interesting to compare the duplicate versions, especially wondering about the old arguments about the speeding-up (or not) of the original recordings...but now when I come to play this out of simple love for this wonderful music, I'm annoyed at having to skip over the unwanted duplicates, and wish I'd stuck to buying CDs of the original two separate 1961 LP versions. In pretty well every case, I think they got it right, which version to choose etc.

I was incredibly excited about purchasing this piece of work.I've seen EC touring and listened to most of his albums, particularly the blues oriented ones (some of the solo albums can be bland e.g. August- not a description that can be used for the live sound created both here and on other discs such both the Crossroads DVDs).
Disapointed at all? No - it feels as if EC has taken the essence of the original RJ material and delivered it in a manner that makes the most of current recording techniques, whilst delivering the spirit of Blues as it is meant to be.
