I bought this cd when it was first released, chiefly for the Natacha Atlas track, and was pleasantly surprised. With catwalk dj veterans like Michel Gaubert and Frederick Sanchez contributing to the playlist, it summarised what was hot at the time. The tracks still weave well - you can imagine storming down the catwalk to them - and some gems include the track by Vive la Fete that they played live at atelier Chanel. Fabulous.

This album,is a work of complete lo-fi genius. Often Beatnik Filmstars get compared to Guided By Voices, but i can't really see why as they've been doing this kind of thing for just as long as GBV have, so really why aren't GBV compared to Beatnik Filmstars? But really all that is just labels and tags to help people know what their getting, and what you're getting is a collection of stunning songs, recorded in a rough and ready style. Don't let the lo-finess put you off, these songs are amazing. The lyrics are as good as anything Morrissey has ever written, well almost! I've heard there's a new album on the way in 06, after a lengthy gap of several years. I, for one, can't wait for it. Beatnik Filmstars are the most under-valued band England ... Read More:

Sixties American Garage music is one of the great genres of that decade. All the bands that emerged mid to late sixties probably evolved via these beginnings. For every Byrds/Love/Buffalo Springfield, there was a hundred local bands that very rarely played outside their county, let alone another state. On this really well packaged double CD, there are just over 60 tracks, ranging from the Aardvarks to The Tribe, all of which play up a storm with either their newly found fuzzboxes or beautiful Byrdlike harmonies. David Kalbach, who headed up the Fenton label obviously let the bands in to "do their thing' and this is the sound of raw 60's Michigan.
