Better than Djivan Gasparyan? That would be a matter of your own personal taste. If you like a nice melodic line then Gasparyan's album "I will not be sad in this world" is excellent. If you like a melodic line with lots of trills, turns and other embellishments then this album will give you exactly what you are looking for. Some of the tracks featured on this album are the same in name as Gasparyan's aforementioned "I will not be sad... ", however although you can pick out the same melody, the feeling and execution is very different. It's almost worth buying both albums just to hear how one can be distinguished from the other.
This album is my favourite between the two. Where Gasparyan's playing strikes me as having a wonderful ... Read More:

With another version of King Kong recently released (2005), the less than satisfactory film that went with this John Barry score will probably be settling into the silt next to Raise the Titanic. Thankfully, such is not the case with this music which is clearly better than the film it accompanies.
In the mid-1970s, John Barry's work was undergoing an interesting transition from the highly unusual innovations of his Sixties scores to the larger string-driven sound which most people now recognise as quintessentially Barry. For this reason, King Kong is definitely worth a listen.
The composer has said he always aims to capture the emotional centre of the action rather than just describe it, and this he does very well for ... Read More:

A group effort with 3 talented bluesmen synergising well and exploiting the time and control that the studio affords.
The late Albert Collins has the largest reputation of the 3 players, and was in fact Cray's mentor. His trademark direct, one-note cries, charged with emotion, are audible throughout the record, while his protege's stlye is more low down, dirty and steely.
Cray is probably the better of the 2 soloists all round, but Collins's lead guitar work on "The Dream" is an album high point. Album opener "T-Bone Shuffle" pays homage to another great bluesmaster, "She's Into Something" provides what should have been a single release and "Albert's Alley" indulges Mr Collins ... Read More:
