I'm a big fan of Sasha and Digweed. Digweeds Essential Mix on R1 in 1995 was the first time I'd ever really liked club music, up until then I'd been subjected to the nasty pop-club pap like C&C Music Factory etc. It was progressive house, and I loved it.
This mix is the must-have that everyone raved about, but at £50 or whatever on Ebay I was prepared to wait.
I heard this for the first time this week. Because I wasn't really there the first time round, and I've never heard it before, I can cast a critical 2008 view on it. I can see why it's a classic, but I'm also slightly disappointed. Mainly with the sound quality. This is remastered? It sounds like it was recorded straight from record to a happy shopper C90 cassette, ... Read More:

Does this album need an introduction? It was only the first mixed dance album, and the first dance compilation to go Gold in sales. If you want a full review, then obviously I suggest reading the reviews from the original album (one I did) but to answer a few queries, this album has indeed been re-mixed sadly, meaning it's not the 'original' version. This is because Sasha and Digweed wanted to remake the album using modern production techniques that weren't present back in 1994.
The result can be partly seen as a positive one - the 3 CD's sound clear and crisp, the beatmatching is alot tighter, and various effects in songs have been brought out more.
Another change, due to Copyright issues, is that 2 tracks have been replaced, those being ... Read More:

I remember buying the original of this when I was 14 and since I was too young to go to clubs this was my first listen to what a club would offer. I instantly fell for Moby, Age of Love, Bedrock, Leftfield and even M People, who at that time I had barely heard of and had writen off without giving a chance. And that is my only grip with this re-issue. How Can I love you more was a classic, born out of the early 90's club scene and Renaissance was the perfect final track for disk 1. Such a shame they weren't included, a classic shouldn't be messed with. Still good though, although the original is still the best.

I am a late comer to dance music (27) and very quickly got addicted to SASHA AND DIGWEED in nothern exposure 1 and the gatecrasher stuff of the late ninetees.
Thought i would try this one, and wow what a great set of CDs, only wish i could get hold of the full version!
Ausome is the only way to describe this with its various styles of music from ambient and chilledout to full on trance.Love the sample of Tangerine Dream track from Sorceror (1st song on 2nd CD). It really is faultless
Roll on next trip to Newquay so i can hear this stuff in its full glory!

Wow what can I say, this a rerelease of the greatest mix CD ever, when you first notice the first CD tracklisting it has three cuts of Leftfield on, why you ask just listen and you will be amazed how it sounds, I just put these three tracks on heavy rotation on my playlist, this is an awesome mix CD full of great progressive tracks that still sound amazing, and check out the mix from 2 bad mice to age of love, it will really make you say WOW 10/10
