Her singing is faultless her voice is pure and she is an excellent mezzo. this cd is also worth having has it has unreleased tracks and different rcordings of arias so not to much crosses over on to other cd's.
I promise once you have heard this CD you will hunt down all of her other recital CD's

Ute Lemper is that rare thing nowadays: a singer at ease with Weimar cabaret songs and contemporary classical ones. Come to think of it, that makes her pretty unique and - the Weill/Brecht connection notwithstanding - she seems willing to push her own limits and use her simultaneously husky, sexy and operatic voice to serve such unexpected composers as Michael Nyman (or even, in later recordings Astor Piazzolla and Jacques Brel).
On this CD the songs from "Cabaret" are delicious and there are the odd Nyman gems, but the strongest points (I would dare to say) are her takings on the Weimar-time cabaret songs and the Piaf/Dietrich songs also available on "Illusions".
Dare to take this one in. You might just discover or re-acquaint yourself ... Read More:

Any aspiring artist would be being ambitious to hope to one day have a Greatest Hits album of this quality. Sixties pop at its best. Like The Manic Street Preachers, he manages an allusion to Steve Smith. Like Elvis Costello, he can write a poisoned pop-song, although in his case a poisoned pop song. Apart from an all too brief glimce of fame on the legendary Thursday Night Fever album he remains shrouded in obscurity when he deserves to be world famous, and not just in yorkshire. If I have one note of criticism it is this, I personally would have been very tempted to call track 2 "Butiful And Young" ,on the basis of never describing a joke by its punchline.
